Morales scores, also tweaks knee slightly

Javier Morales’ 80th minute goal Saturday night amazingly was his first since scoring in Monterrey last April. He celebrated by taking off his jersey to reveal a birthday wish to his 1-year-old niece on his undershirt. It cost him a yellow card, and even though it may contribute to a suspension later in the year, with everything he’s endured in the past 11 months, it may have been … Continue reading»

Simulation has RSL finishing second in West

Real Salt Lake will set a franchise record for wins and points this year, but it still won’t be enough to catch the L.A. Galaxy for the Supporters’ Shield. That is, of course, according to an EA Sports simulation of FIFA Soccer 12. RSL will finish second in the West behind the Galaxy with a 19-4-11 record (68 points). L.A. will rack up a league-record 75 points with … Continue reading»

Transactions that shaped Real Salt Lake

I was looking through the Deseret News archives, and I stumbled upon this list of 14 key transactions that shaped Real Salt Lake through the years. I put this together in the build-up to the Champions League final last April, and I thought I’d share it again, because it’s still very relevant heading into the 2012 season. In hindsight, I might change the order of importance on some … Continue reading»

Good riddance

Xango Field in Lehi has been Real Salt Lake’s training home for the past four and a half years. That love-hate relationship tentatively came to an end on Saturday as the team practiced on the field for likely the final time. The team loved that Xango was gracious enough to build RSL’s training field back in 2007, but nobody loved how far away it was from Rio Tinto … Continue reading»

We hardly knew you

Real Salt Lake released three more trialists this afternoon reducing the team’s roster to 28 players with the season opener just over three weeks away on March 10. RSL coach Jason Kreis parted ways with defenders Samir Bengelloun and Wes Knight, along with midfielder Lewis Neal. Bengelloun was a left back from France. Knight was a defender who appeared in 12 games with Vancouver last year before being … Continue reading»

Rancid drums up passion for RSL

OK, if you’re a Real Salt Lake fan, this is a must-watch video. Rancid drummer Branden Steineckert, a huge RSL fan, helped put this fan-produced video together recently. It’s a very, very catchy chant. It might be the first chant I’ve heard from RSL fan groups through the years that could go viral. I was even humming this tune driving into work today. It would be great to … Continue reading»

On Thursday Real Salt Lake broke ground on its new training field in Sandy, America First FIeld. Linda Carver, a chair person for America First, gave a five minute speech about her passion for soccer and specifically RSL. It was an amazing talk that caught everyone off guard, and one RSL coach Jason Kreis personally thanked her for afterward. Here is a transcript of her speech. If you’re … Continue reading»
