Two days after Nick Rimando was “snubbed” according to some by not winning the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award, one of his defensive teammates took home a different honor.
The league announced Friday morning that RSL defender Jamison Olave was named the MLS Defender of the Year, edging out teammate Nat Borchers and Los Angeles’ Omar Gonzalez.
Olave started 27 matches this season, and was only suspended once because of yellow card accumulation. He didn’t receive a red card either, line-up consistency that enabled RSL to set a new league record by allowing only 20 goals in 30 regular season games.
