For the second straight month a Real Salt Lake player has been named MLS Player of the Month by the North American Soccer Reporters. This time around the honor goes to goalkeeper Nick Rimando who didn’t allow a goal in three June matches for RSL.
Alvaro Saborio garnered the same honor in May.
Rimando shutout D.C. United in a 0-0 draw back on June 5, and then earned a 1-0 win over the L.A. Galaxy on June 9. Last Friday he made a season-high eight saves to lead RSL to another 0-0 tie with San Jose.
Rimando, who has 99 career victories, will go after win No. 100 this Friday at home against the New England Revolution.
His current shutout streak stands at 318 minutes, just 38 minutes shy of a club record 356-minute shutout streak.
The Deseret News participates in NASR voting, and James Edward’s June vote went to Nick Rimando. Last month it went to Saborio and the previous month it went to eventual April Player of the Month winner Edson Buddle.
