Caught up with injured RSL midfielder Kyle Beckerman in the locker room Saturday night after his team’s friendly with Costa Rican club Puntarenas. He said he’s still hoping to be back in action this Friday against San Jose.
He’s been gradually increasing his running all week, even though it’s been all straight ahead running. Next week’s training sessions is when he’ll start trying to plant on the foot. If that goes well, he might be in consideration against the Earthquakes on Friday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Realistically though, with as dominant as Real Salt Lake is at home it could easily beat San Jose without Beckerman. As such, even if RSL’s captain is close to 100 percent it seems unlikely the coach would risk him injuring the foot again.
A return on July 2 at Rio Tinto Stadium against New England seems much more realistic.
