Williams declines Jamaican invite

It turns out that Andy Williams won’t be leaving after this weekend for the Gold Cup after all. Citing family reasons, Williams respectfully declined the invitation from the Jamaican National team to participate in the CONCACAF Gold Cup from July 3-26.

“That just shows an unbelievable level of commitment on his part to this club,” said coach Jason Kreis.

Williams’ decision is a big one for his club. Real Salt Lake stood to be without Williams, Kyle Beckerman (USA), Will Johnson (Canada) and Jean Alexandre (Haiti) for a two to four week stretch during the Gold Cup, but now RSL will only be missing three midfielders instead of four.
