RSL to take on the Ogden Outlaws tonight

Real Salt Lake will travel north to Ogden City this evening to take on the Ogden Outlaws in an exhibition game at St. Joseph Catholic School, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Simply put, tonight’s exhibition is huge for the Outlaws.
It’s a big deal for the players, who will have the chance to measure themselves against an MLS side. But it’s an even bigger deal for the future of the fourth-year PDL club.
The gate revenue that the Outlaws receive from this annual exhibition game against RSL is always a critical component of the club’s overall budget, and owner Mike Hickman hopes to potentially raise even more money from this year’s game.
Hickman also hopes to use tonight’s game against RSL to underscore the need for a permanent home for his PDL club.
The Outlaws played their home games on the football field at Ogden High during the first three years of the club’s existence before moving to the soccer pitch at Bonneville High this year.
Neither of those locations are ideal for various reasons, however, and Hickman would love nothing more than to see his team move to a permanent multi-use facility.
That’s where tonight’s match comes into play.
Hickman hopes to pack as many people as possible into the pristine but tiny field at St. Joseph Catholic School tonight to show there is a need for a soccer facility in Ogden.
“I feel it’s important that we show the political leadership in Ogden that we can fill up the stands and that soccer is a big-time event,” said Hickman. “If we do that, we can show that it’s time to start looking for a permanent place for the Ogden Outlaws and have it be versatile enough so other events could be held there.”
Tickets for tonight’s game cost eight dollars for adults and five dollars for children. St. Joseph Catholic School is located at 1790 Lake Street on the east side of Ogden.
