Week 13 picks

This is a very interesting weekend for MLS. We’re just a few weeks away from the midway point of the season for most teams, and there are several games today pitting teams that are fairly close to each other in the standings. On paper there figures to be several mismatches as well. Should be a tough week to predict, but that’s why I’m to go 7-0.

Chicago at D.C. United
Losers of two straight, Chicago will be looking for a bounce back win this weekend but it won’t come easy. D.C. United has been consistently solid all year and it should be able to continue that trend in this battle of Eastern Conference leaders. D.C. United 1-0.

New York at Toronto FC
This will finally be the week the Red Bulls score on the road, but unfortunately their defense will probably let in a few more in what should be a predictable outcome. Toronto 3-1.

Houston at FC Dallas
Three weeks ago this would’ve been an easy pick, but Dallas is playing well lately and Houston is coming off hard-fought victory over Chivas USA on Wednesday. I smell an upset as Houston’s nine-game unbeaten streak comes to an end. FC Dallas 2-0.

New England at Kansas City
This is a big match for both teams. Both sit in the middle of the Eastern Conference pack, and this is one of those six-point swing games that could be the beginning of a big summer for the winner. New England is in better form lately and should steal the win. New England 2-1.

Real Salt Lake at L.A. Galaxy
If ever there was a game that has draw written all over it, this is it. These teams played to a 2-2 draw last month, and the Galaxy have tied nine of 12 matches this year. A win would do wonders for both teams as they sit on the outside of the playoff picture, but it won’t happen this weekend. Draw 2-2.

San Jose at Seattle
Seattle is 0-1-5 since its last win in late April. With the last place team in the Western Conference in town tonight, this is the perfect opportunity for the Sounders to get back on track. San Jose is playing better as late, but it won’t be good enough tonight. Seattle 3-1.

Chivas USA at Columbus
Columbus is playing some of the best soccer in the league right now, whereas Chivas is in a bit of a slump having lost to Houston on Wednesday. Without two key players who are with the U.S. National Team in South Africa, the slump will continue for Chivas. Columbus 2-0.

Week 2 record: 0-7
Week 3 record: 4-4
Week 4 record: 1-6
Week 5 record: 3-3
Week 6 record: 5-2
Week 7 record: 2-5
Week 8 record: 2-7
Week 9 record: 2-5
Week 10 record: 5-2
Week 11 record: 2-4
Week 12 record: 2-4

Season Record: 28-50

Note: With three options in soccer picks, 33% would be considered average.
