Kovalenko makes his return

Dema Kovalenko was only a member of Real Salt Lake for one season, but he made big contributions throughout the 2008 season and he scored a huge goal in the second leg of RSL’s playoff series with Chivas USA.

Wednesday he’ll be making his return to Rio Tinto Stadium as a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy, and Kyle Beckerman for one can’t wait to play against him.

“I’ll try and use what I learned from him last year. When he’s not on your team at all you think he’s a big bad wolf kind a guy, but once you get to know him he’s a nice guy. So yeah, it will be fun. I don’t think he has any animosity towards us like he did New York, so, it will just be regular old Dema.”

Real Salt Lake traded Kovalenko to the Galaxy on Jan. 20 for allocation money and a conditional 2011 MLS SuperDraft selection.

Kovalenko has appeared in five of six matches for the Galaxy this year, missing one because of a red card suspension. Kovalenko went all of last season with Real Salt Lake without picking up a red card.

What are your expectations from Kovalenko against his former team Wednesday night?

Chris Seitz was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week today for recording a pair of shutouts last week while on loan with the Portland Timbers.

Seitz, who will get the starting nod against the Galaxy this Wednesday, made a combined 15 saves while starting in place of Portland injured keeper Steve Cronin.
