It turns out Real Salt Lake won’t have a trialist this week after all. Swedish striker John Pelu was supposed to begin a 10-day trial with RSL this week, but he’s not with the team at Xango Field today. It turns out his agent neglected to inform RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey and coach Jason Kreis that the Houston Dynamo had already filed a discovering claim on Pelu.
So, when Pelu arrived in Salt Lake City last night, he spent the night in Utah and then was scheduled to jump on a plane for Houston.
MLS allows teams to file a discovery on players who aren’t in the league, and if that player signs with the league the team filing the original claim gets that player. If things don’t work out in Houston with Pelu, RSL could then have a look at the Swedish player.
