Rio Tinto to host qualifier?

The rumor is starting to spread through the soccer chat rooms and soccer enthusiasts that Rio Tinto/Utah/Sandy may get the U.S.A. vs. Mexico 2010 World Cup Qualifying match scheduled for Feb. 11, 2009.
After contacting Real Salt Lake’s team spokesman, unfortunately at this time, all he could say was, “No comment.” He said that he could neither confirm nor deny the rumor that apparently began on ESPNDeportes a couple of days ago and has taken on a life of its own. In one lowly reporters honest opinion, that bodes well for the fact that the game may be coming.
How huge would it be for the soccer community here in Utah, not to mention for Rio Tinto Stadium, to host the marquee matchup in this section’s qualifying? Last time the U.S. team hosted a qualifier in Utah, the players and coaches alike ranted and raved about how much they liked the crowd support and atmosphere at Rice-Eccles when they beat Costa Rica. How crazy would that stadium be?
Your thoughts on having that game here in Sandy?
