A lot of topics were addressed at Real Salt Lake’s playoff media luncheon at Rio Tinto Stadium on Tuesday. In addition to mentioning that he believed his team had the potential to win MLS Cup, Kreis went out of his way to thank the fans.
“To the fans, I have to say a huge thank you, not only thank you for what you’ve done for us the past four years, cause I think it’s been absolutely outstanding. The fact you’ve come week in and week out to support our team when we were miserable. Now that I think we’re very good, thank you for that,” he said.
“Thank you for making (Rio Tinto) Stadium in the two games we’ve played in absolutely a fortress. Thank you for making Rice-Eccles Stadium for us this year an absolute fortress. And finally, thank you for Saturday, thanks for coming out in the numbers you did. I know it meant a lot to me, and I know the players were spurned on by it,” Kreis said.
An estimated 250 to 300 RSL fans were attendance at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado last weekend, and they helped root on the team and celebrate the last-minute tie.
Fans will have that same opportunity on Saturday, Oct. 8 in the second leg of its playoff series with Chivas USA in Southern California. A second fun bus has been organized for fans who want to head to SoCal for the match.
