What a week for RSL

It was a weird week being the Real Salt Lake beat writer for the Deseret News. It started with a phone call out of the blue on Monday from RSL indicating that Jason Kreis wanted to vent about officiating. On Thursday Kreis was fined and suspended for one game by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for those comments. (Note, on that same day I had a one-on-one chat with MLS Deputy Commissioner Ivan Gazidis about the suspension, comments both on and off the record which were very informative). That same day RSL closed its first practice of the season ‘ obviously Kreis wanted to keep his line-up a secret. I expect that trend to continue for the rest of the season so understand that our line-up projections on game days are no longer based on fact, just a guess. With that said, I just have a hunch that Matias Cordoba and Chris Seitz get starting nods tonight against FC Dallas.

To top it all off, Carey Talley was traded to Chivas USA on Friday. On any other day, and in any other week it’s big news when a team trades away one of its captains. This week though, it just seemed to fall in line with all of the other events.

Not to be outdone by former RSL teammates now playing for Chivas, does this mean Carey Talley will inevitably score a goal against Real this year just like Atiba Harris and Alecko Eskandarian did?

Ties killed my predictions last week, so here’s hoping the home teams get the job done today, except for San Jose of course.

MLS Saturday Predictions

Colorado (1) at Houston (2) — This is getting a bit ridiculous. Two-time defending MLS Cup champ Houston is still winless, but I believe that streak comes to an end tonight.
FC Dallas (1) at Real Salt Lake (2) — I’m not sure this is the smartest pick since RSL has beaten Dallas just twice in 11 tries, but something tells me Kreis’ suspension is going to fire up his players to perform well for 90 minutes.
Columbus (2) at San Jose (0) — The Crew are on fire, the Earthquakes have scored two goals all year, this outcome is pretty predictable.
New York (2) at L.A. Galaxy (4) — Just like every other Galaxy game this year, expect to see no defense and plenty of goals.

MLS Sunday Predictions

New England (0) at Chivas USA (2) — Carey Talley’s new team has given up a lot of goals this year. Against the Revs I think the Goats finally get their defensive act together.

Record to date: Correct 15, Incorrect 24.
Note: I’m counting draws in my record, therefore picking 33 percent of the games correct would be considered average.

What are your predictions for this weekend? And who do you think will start for RSL tonight?
