Thursday practice notes

Real Salt Lake practiced in snowy, windy conditions at Xango Field this afternoon prior to their Thursday evening flight to Washington D.C.

After practice coach Jason Kreis confirmed that Fabian Espindola would not be making the trip because of his hamstring strain. That would seem to pave the way for another starting nod for Robbie Findley up top.

Based on what I saw in practice this week, here is my projection at this Saturday’s starting 11 (note the asterisks): Nick Rimando, Chris Wingert, Jamison Olave*, Nat Borchers, Tony Beltran*, Carey Talley, Kyle Beckerman, Dema Kovalenko, Javier Morales, Robbie Findley, Kenny Deuchar.

* With center back Matias Mantilla on the injury report with a knee injury, this seems like an ideal week for Olave to make his MLS debut. Outside fullback Beltran was practicing with the first unit today, and after another below-average game last weekend by Ian Joy, this seems like a good spot for Kreis to utilize some of the depth he’s been so high on since training camp.
