It’s an off day for Real Salt Lake today, with two training sessions on tap for Tuesday — a morning and an evening practice. Based on last Saturday’s finishing, you got to think coach Jason Kreis will be working his strikers on finishing quite a bit this week.
The question is, who will start? Does Kreis give Fabian Espindola and Yura Movsisyan another start, or does he insert Kenny Deuchar and Robbie Findley into the starting 11? This decision will likely be a weekly occurrence this year, but who do you think Kreis should start this Saturday against Chivas USA.
Some of you may have noticed our player grades for the Chicago match. This was something that several readers had inquired about during the preseason, and we think it’s a great idea. We plan on having these player grades posted on our RSL blog within 30 minutes of the final whistle every match this year. We encourage fans to post their own grades as well each week, and feel free to disagree by all means. These grades will be a work in progress as we fine-tune our interpretation of our 1-10 scale, but we will tend to be conservative with our grades.
I will admit that after finally seeing the replay today of Chicago’s goal, we were a bit harsh on Nat Borchers. I thought he played a fantastic match, equally as good as any match Eddie Pope played last year. We perhaps punished him a bit much for a missed clearance that really happened in a split second. I believe more blame should be placed on Ian Joy, because the opportunity never would’ve developed if he’d closed down Calen Carr on the sideline better. Once Carr got around Joy RSL was in scramble mode.
After one week, here the results of my weekly MLS picks:
